Iron Deficiency Anemia: Causes and Treatments



Do you get tired easily while doing any kind of physical activity for few minutes?  Is your face looking pale these days? Are you not able to concentrate? If you are suffering from any of these conditions possibilities are that you might be suffering from Iron deficiency anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is a blood condition in which there are too few red blood cells or not enough hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin is an iron- containing compound found in the red blood cells which transport oxygen around the body. Iron deficiency anemia occurs when there is a deficiency of iron. It is the most common nutritional disorder which can be found in women and children.

Iron deficiency is mainly caused by blood loss and low Iron. Blood loss in women can be caused by menstruation, any major surgery or peptic ulcer disease. Also, if you have suffered from accident in recent past you might have lost a lot of blood .Deficiency of iron can result from a taking a low iron diet or if you have been operated for any weight loss surgery in the past. If your children are drinking cow’s milk they are at a risk of blood loss as cow’s milk can lead to blood loss by irritating the lining of the intestines and can interfere with iron absorption.

If you are diagnosed with low iron your doctor will prescribe iron supplements, eating iron-rich food such as meats, eggs, seafood, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, and beetroot also you will be suggested to drink a lot of water. During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Women’s daily iron intake can leap. So they should take iron supplements and iron rich food to make sure they don’t suffer from anemia.
