http://goo.gl/IXUTXO - #BalineseMassage What do you do when you visit a new place? You taste the new cuisine, you fancy the architecture, you observe the culture and explore the place. Most people do this; I being a lazy lad follow a slightly different routine. I eat a lot (of course!), I look around (sure!), I take souvenirs and I try the local (drum beat here!) massage. I find a way to relax anywhere. It’s kind of my talent!

So I was in Bali last weekend I found out about Balinese Massage. I didn’t opt for one of those elaborate Bali Spa Packages; instead I went looking for best spa in Bali for women. A massage named after a country, now that says a lot. So naturally I had to try it and OMG! Let me get started.

Balinese massage is an approach to massage developed in the Indonesian province of Bali, with influence from the traditional medicine systems of India, China, and Southeast Asia. Along with the Balinese massage techniques of acupressure, gentle stretching, skin rolling and brushing, reflexology, aromatherapy, and application of essential oils accents the massage effect.

Essential oils are intended not only to relax the client and loosen fascial restrictions, but to stimulate the lymphatic system, the flow of blood and to soothe the mind. Massage plus aromatherapy also helps in better oxygen and energy flow and in releasing blockages which cause the pain in the body. Common oils used are jasmine, rose, and sandalwood, while more exotic oils may include cempaka, sandat, and frangipani. To address a specific complaint, you may request warm oil with an infusion of lemon grass, cloves, or ginger.

One of the main goals of the Balinese massage therapy is a relaxed state of mind; to accomplish this; the masseuse may knead or fold the skin to promote the flow of blood, oxygen, and energy throughout the body. Important part of this massage is the stomach rubs down, especially for women since it’s favorable for reproductive system and colon health. It brings a release to deeply tense and knotted muscles. The massage works especially well on achy joints and muscle strains, and it is often recommended after sports injuries. The techniques are supposed to be good for reducing stress and anxiety, and boosting a person's general sense of well-being.

And I must say mission accomplished.

You can also think of it as a form of deep massage and is designed to work on almost every muscle in your body. Balinese traditional massage version of this massage is not a subtle one, and is usually felt deep in the muscles. One may ask the masseuse for a gentler or firm approach. It works for everybody. At this point I’d like to say that since I feel blessed out I’d advice everyone to get a Balinese massage.
